About

Emily, owner of The Other SceneHiya!

My name is Emily and I am the owner of The Other Scene. I created this company in 2005 as an artistic outlet to showcase and sell my creations. I am visually impaired, but I don’t let that stop me in creating quality items to make others feel like a Gothic beauty. I’ve been making jewelry and accessories since I was about 5 years old. Some of my first creations were plastic beads strung on dental floss. I still have a few to this day!

When I was 14, I got my first taste of Gothic fashion by watching Forever Knight on TV. Jannette’s jewelry and gowns were exquisite. Try as I had, I couldn’t find anything like what she wore anywhere! (Pre internet). There was one major store in the mall that had similar items, but not quite what I was looking for.

I graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor’s in Art, majoring in Studio Art and minoring in Art History. The job market was shaky at best and being visually impaired was a challenge. I decided to defy my odds and created an online shop to sell the items I would wear. It’s very important to me to sell handmade and fair trade items that support the artists/crafters that create them. I am in the process of creating a clothing line! Come back soon to see new items or to check out my blog.

Best wishes and blessings,
Emily =)
